In Depth Night Plan
I’ve given this a lot of thought. I originally had planned to have a couple friends act out a scene, but I’m realizing how much pressure that would put on the actors, (because I’m picky and would make them memorize the lines and everything). Then I thought I’d just read a monologue and set up a tiny learning center if anybody wants to read a bit more, but that’s a very simple/boring plan. Finally, I reached my conclusion- I’ll have someone have a conversation with me out of the play (probably from the scene with the Duke and Lord Jonathan having a casual conversation about nearly everything) with minimal acting and scripts in front of us. This allows everyone watching a fairly good idea of the style of the play and essential everything that happens in it. The Duke and Lord discuss the murderer, his punishment, how awful he is, and gradually turn to the guy who gave them the murderer (who isn’t actulaly the murderer), Augustus, and then how he and Iris are to be married (while really Iris has a plan to run away) and finally Ballas (Iris’s father) shows up and they go off to search the town for the murderer (Bonifacio).
I’ll also have a very simple one-desk learning center, simply with a playbill that I’ll make of the characters and scenes in the play, and a printout of the play if anybody wishes to read some of it. The playbill will be colourful and visually appealing for anybody who just wants a quick overview of what I’ve done, because when I’m onstage I won’t have much time to go into detail about every character and what they do to benefit the plot line and every twist that happens in the play.
Until then, I have a playbill to make and a couple more scenes to write.
